How much affordable housing do we need? Click HERE to view the basis for an estimated need of social
housing dwellings in NSW over the next two decades. Housing needs paper was prepared by Dr Judy
Yates (Honorary Associate, School of Economics, University of Sydney; Senior Visiting Fellow, City
Futures, University of NSW).
What would it take to create 100,000 wonderful new affordable homes in NSW?
We think it is time housing was recognised as key infrastructure, as essential to the economic success of NSW along with roads, railways, poles and wires, etc. We now have a housing response by the government as set out in the Social and Affordable Housing Fund, Future Directions for Social Housing and Communities Plus. There is also the Greater Sydney Commission which is opening its doors this year.
Nevertheless, we think there is an appetite to do a lot more and we want this conference to be a catalyst for making more happen.
The NSW Federation of Housing Associations acknowledges the traditional custodians of the many nations across NSW and we pay our respect to their Elders past, present and to those who have come before us. We also acknowledge the Gadigal Clan of the Eora Nation who are the traditional custodians of the land on which the conference venue is located.
